Its kind of obvious....... although gene did write some killers e.g unholy, child hoods end, and journey of a thousand years, paul just has the consistancy to write good songs and always has done, i mean i dont care what anyone says about the psycho circus album but pauls songs on there are just cool............. raise your glasses rocks along with i pledge allegence and many others, on COS i will be there, jungle and rain are stand out tracks for me and on revenge well not so good but i just wanna is just a cool song and everytime i look at you is a great ballad, as well as consistancy he shows great range in writing ideas lol welll im just rambling bye!

Although Gene's '90's songs showed a huge improvement over the garbage he spewed throughout most of the '80's, overall, the edge has to go to Paul, who is just more talented a songwriter and almost always hits the mark.

Both of them turned in some fine tunes, though. "Journey of 1000 Years" stands as one of the finest songs in the history of the band.

"I went to my friend's house one day, and he had an electric guitar he had just bought with a tiny little amp. I turned the volume up to 10 and I hit one chord, and I said, I'm in love."
