The Prodigy have been named final headliners for next year’s Sonisphere festival.
The dance rock outfit join Iron Maiden and Metallica at the top of the bill for the event which marks 40 years since the first live music weekender at Knebworth Park.
Prodigy mastermind Liam Howlett says: “We can’t wait to play Sonisphere 2014. We’ll be hitting you with some brand new beats and noise. Respecto.”
The events promoters add: “We’re ecstatic to announce The Prodigy will be making a triumphant return to Knebworth, having previously played a legendary show with Oasis in 1996. Adding them to the headliner sets of Maiden and Metallica is pretty much guaranteed to get the foundations of Knebworth House shaking.”
The Prodigy close the show on the night of Friday, July 4, with Maiden performing on Saturday and Metallica ending the event on Sunday, July 6. It’s the only UK show of the year for both metal giants. Bruce Dickinson has promised to “tweak” his band’s set as they end their Maiden England retrospective world tour, with some songs to be played live for the last time ever. Meanwhile, Metallica’s set will be chosen by ticket-buying fans as part of their ‘By Request’ European festival tour. Their performance will also include one brand-new piece.
Many more bands are to be confirmed in due course.
Earlybird Sonisphere tickets are on sale via http://sonisphere.co.uk/ priced £170 but with limited availability. The event’s £50 deposit scheme will return early next year.
