New forum

Postby kissinuk » Tue Jun 19, 2007 9:35 pm

As you've probably noticed the forum has been updated. I'm still tweaking it and some stuff isn't working yet (like the YouTube video links) but I'm working on it. Please post any probs here so I can check them.

Applogies for the downtime!

Cheers,

Paul.

New forum layout - it takes time to get used to.

Where is the "posts which have been added since you last logged on"?

It's now under the 'View New Posts' link near the top of the screen.

Just experimenting with the new layout - not too sure about it myself yet. You can put the old one back by going to your 'User Control Panel' and change 'My Board Style' to 'subsilver'.

Okay, what is confusing about it and I'll try to sort it. Eventually I'll be getting rid of the old style so we will only have this one, but I want to make sure everyone is happy first.

Let me know which bits could do with being put back. One thing that will probably stay though is having the avatars on the right instead of the left. Will take a bit of getting used to I know.

Cheers,

Paul.

It's just all shiny & new. That's all! Though having the avatars on the right is a bit wierd at the moment.

I wondered that too! I think it has something to do with setting up a special user for Google to use when they are indexing the site. Maybe.

There is a Yahoo[Bot] that appears occasionally too....

Suppose I better switch back to the new style so I get used to the avatars on the right hand side sooner rather than later.

Big thing that took a bit of getting used to yesterday (when I was in and out all day cause I was at home) was the extra level of index. Sure it just used to be 2 levels of index to get back to the main index page, but now there is an extra level. (Well, I think there is. Maybe the Board Index level was called something else before and I've only noticed how many layers there are now that it is called board index.)

Okay, so far the main thing I've been asked about if avatars on the right - I'll leave it another week or so and then do a poll. They got on my nerves to start with but I think I'm getting used to it, maybe...

The extra level of index has always been there in the background it just never used to show the link to it - I'll have a look at trying to loose it.

The Google/Yahoo bots are a pain in the arse, apparently it is to stop them from distorting the number of users when they search the site. I will either bin them or find a way of stopping them appearing at the bottom of the screen.

Just discovered something else! Links don't open in a new window anymore. I used to like that I could click a link and not have to worry about losing my kissinuk forum page while I looked around you tube or some story or other on another site.

Smilies are back.

Looks like the way links work has changed in this version - for the time being right-click and choose 'open in new tab (or window)' , or hold down shift when you click the link.

Personally, I like the new lay out. But a couple of things..

The links to open in another page - Its been mentioned already, & I know we can right click, but I just prefer it that way, like on the old forum please, and..

... any chance of Fox & Vinnie make-up icons? A complete set :D
