The Macc Lads

Post by Pete »

Moved form the main forum to here so not to interrupt the other thread too much...
ric k iss wrote: i drove to macc once aged about 19 at the time just to see if i could "see" the macc lads in the pub or somewhere....went outside the bears head but was too scared to go in incase someone kicked my head in for ordering lager! so i had a macdonalds (which was shit as i recall) and went home....saw them live a few times though and still got loads of albums
ask muttley to re-form lol i asked the question via their "web site"(t shirt sales etc only by the looks) and never heard nowt!
The Bears Head has now long gone...its been a Flligree and Firkin pub, something else and it's now a 'Trendy Wine bar'...
McDonalds in the town centre is about to close down (!!!).
Oh and Hectic House has looooong gone....

Muttley himself frequents a few of the local pubs, he can often be found watching the local punk covers bands such as Cash 4 Chaos and of course the Mocc Lads. He's never sang with them on stage (as far as I know) but will often mouth the words to songs such as 'Blackpool', 'Sweaty Betty' etc....

The lads in the Mocc lads themselves are some of my mates & a couple of others and a bang on job they do, having played Blackpool, Leeds and Ashton in recent months.

It amazes me that the Macc lads popularity remains as strong as it is....

 time moves on i guess, you keep thinking its only a few years ago and that things stay the same....yet its 20 plus years since i saw them for the 1st time! i guess muttley and the lads(wonder what their real names are?) wouldn't want to get spat on and sick an piss chucked at them now they are in their (50's)?? i'm guessing their ages as muttley looked around 30 when i was a kid watching them...could be wrong though.....heard that the beater (guitar) was a postman now! :D

Oh yes, the Lads from Macc ...... saw them a few times 1986 - 1989.

Tried to book them for an Uni gig, but the Union president banned me from doing it ..... they were Socialist Worker crowd!

Have all their stuff on tape ... the Live from Leeds.

One of the Macc lads (i've forgotten which one) ended up as a journalist with the Staffordshire Evening Sentinel and sadly died unexpectedly last year.

That would have been Al O'Peesha (Peter Bossley).
