This is a cracking blog - one of my daily reads.
Are you aware that 70% of the money we spend on petrol is tax? Remember that every time the price of petrol goes up Government coffers take in extra VAT.
Here's a link:

Peterlprices.com is pretty good - they will send you out an email telling you where the cheapest petrol is in your area (still a rip off price - but at least it helps)

Re: petrol
I've got a little 1.4 Daewoo thing I bought way back when with the missus. It's a sad state of affairs, but I just can't afford to live where I'm living anymore, and part of the problem is the huge hit I'm taking each month on petrol costs alone. I live in Barry, which is on the s.Wales coast, but work up near the Valleys north of Cardiff, not too far from Caerphilly. I do 40 miles a day just in work travel, to and from, and I'm starting to really begrudge it. Luckily, I have a Morrisson's not half a mile away, and it's been one of the cheapest places around (plus you get a £5 voucher everytime you spend £10,000 on petrol or whatever it is). It finally the topped the £1.10 mark yesterday though. I see lots of garages where the petrol is being advertised on the big signs as 10.9, or 11.9, or 14.9. This is basically '114.9p', but the signs can't cope with FOUR digits!!!

Re: petrol
I was moaning about this today to someone. It seems now we have broked the psyhcological barrier of £1.00 a gallon last year it has gone up and up. Its 113.9 around here. Why does the price vary between supermarket sites of the same name, their food doesn't. In Ruislip Sainsburys its a good 4p more expensive than Watofr 20 miles away?
Suddenly petrol inflation has hit the roof. I got a 1% payrise for what was deemed a good performance so yet another means I am actually a lot worse of. I used to make a bit of money as I have to do lots of private miles in my car. The inland revenue set a rate of 40p per mile which hasn't changed for at least 12 years to my knowledge despite petrol going through the roof.
It affects nearly everything we buy due to increased transportation costs. The country is in a Big downwards spiral. I was accussed at work of being all doom and gloom as my company one of the biggest banks in the world is in the sevrest sh*t which does not bode well for the economy or the future. However the share price crashed again today.

I do a double-take every time I go past the new Morrisson's down Cardiff Bay, it's 1p cheaper than my local Morrisson's near me, 6 miles away. Not much of a difference, granted. You're right about the seeing the same prices store to store, but never on the petrol. RIP OFF!! I'd buy a bike, but I'm too fat, lol.

Re: petrol
The thing that I really don't understand is why the hell we're 'taxed on tax' with petrol - first there's the fuel tax followed by VAT. The VAT is not only added to the actual petrol cost but also added to the fuel tax!!
We were running low the other day and popped into a small (tiny) garage in Desborough - £1.20 for unleaded £1.30 for diesel!!!!

Re: petrol
This stupid country is in serious need of a civil uprising. Its already on a downward spiral into oblivion & there is no way of stopping it until the whole nation comes crashing down around us. Inflation & stealth taxes have shafted so hard since Labour came to power, yet not one single working man has had a pay increase to compensate these huge rises in everyday necessities such as fuel, gas, electricity, water, etc. Add onto that the nazi council tax bill which increases at a steady 20%+ each year (along with every other bill you get ), the lawlessness on the streets, the inability of the government to give a shit about the common man, but bend over backward to help anyone clever enough to come here from Johnny Bongo land on the scrounge & you have a recipe for anarchy.
THE FROGS DON'T TAKE THIS SHIT !!! WE JUST SEEM TO HAVE A GOOD MOAN THEN LET IT CONTINUE.
WE'RE BLOODY STUPID, ALL OF US.
Its amazing to read that this is the exact same economical climate & dissatisfaction within the German populous that helped Hitler rise to power. Think Im joking ??
Long live La Revolution !!!
