I agree, but at least Axl has the tools to back up his cockyness.

Elliott kinda makes himself out to be amazing, when he isn't even in Axl league vocally, stage presence or songwriting.
Haven't seen G n' R Live so can't comment on stage presence but I think Joe and Axl are very similar vocally....

Songwriting, I'll give you even though both have completely different styles and write about completely different subject matter...

I'm not too sure, Joe always had to use loads of effects on his voice, listen to the Hysteria album.

Joe Elliott is right. They've not written a shit song, they've written hundreds.

Def Leppard lost the plot in a big way after Pyromania.

I've always thought that Axl's voice was GNR's weak point actually but as most things I suppose that boils down to taste.

And was Izzy not the big songwriter?

Most of Appetite was all co-wrote between all members, and alot of the Use Your Illusions is co-wrote, the songs that Axl brought in that he wrote completely by himself were November Rain, Estranged and a few of the other ballads.

The comparison still stands, November Rain is better lyrically then anything Leppard have come out with, and lyrically most of Chinese Democracy is better too.

I like both bands, I'm just drawing on the Elliott/Axl comparison.

Ive got to be honest and no offense to anyone who likes GNR but I just cant understand why people hold them in such high regard as they were just a complete mess from beginning to end.
Musically and lyrically and for being the most professional it's Def Leppard.
GNR could never write songs as complex as anything off Pyromania or Hysteria or anything else the Lepps have written.
As far as ego goes I dont think his ego is anywhere near as big as Gene Simmons now that's ego and look at some of the ego stuff Gene has come out with over the years.
Dont want to argue with anyone on here about this but I just had to have my say on this.
I guess at the end of the day you either like something or you dont.

When bands get over big style why do people always say that.

JUst like Metallica fans saying they love everything up to the Black Album

Always makes me chuckle.....

'Better' is a very subjective term. 'Pour some sugar on me, in the name of love' is just poetic

Better in my opinion, obviously everyone will have a different opinion.

I know a lot of people think GNR were overrated, I can understand their claims. I like GNR for one simple reason, and one simple reason only:

Axl Rose

Slash is overrated if anything.

I know a lot of people think GNR were overrated, they have always been one my favourite bands. I like GNR mainly because of Axl Rose's voice (again some people hate it), and his songs.

Slash is overrated if anything.

I'm sure at some point there has been a best debut album thread and I know that I'd definitely put Appetite up there as one of the best. Could never quite get into anything else that much but I do quite like Chinese Democracy.

I was going to get all "G&R are over rated" on you daniel, until you added this post. Appetite is classic, but it's classic because of Axl, Slash, Duff, Izzy and Adler, after that they became self obsessed and over blown. The Illusions are uneven and way too long and one album would have made way more sense than two. Chinese Democracy is much better than I expected, but it's not an G&R album in anything but name. I like Slash's playing, but his solo album and the Velvet Revolver albums are pretty boring. Some cool riffs, but nothing more.

Being honest I'd rather listen to Leppard anytime. On Through The Night, High & Dry, Pyromania and Hysteria are all brilliant albums. After that Adrenalize, Slang, Euphoria and X are all a bit ropey, however Songs From The Sparkle Lounge is excellent.

Have Leppard written some dodgy songs?? Certainly have, every band has.

Is Elliot a tw@T? Sure is.

Axl?? Ohhhh yes!!

But then again, so is Gene, Paul can say some cringeworthy things, so has Qzzy, Dio and Alice Cooper's radio show on Planet Rock makes me wince regularly.

Self belief? Arrogance? Small difference.
These are my people. This is my crowd.
