why lock the footy thread

cant understand why the football thread has been locked now,its not as if its a new topic the banter has been goping back and forth on here since last june without any probs, its nothing but harmless banter between football fans who sopport diff teams,nothing persoannal at all, outside of the kiss threads this is the most popular thread on here and cant see any sense in locking it
