Favourite Gerry Anderson TV Show

Post by mrmajester »

As it's now the 40th Anniversary of Captain Scarlet, thought I'd indulge everybody and see what they think Mr Anderson's and Mrs Anderson's(Sylvia), fave show is.

Space 1999- the first series was fantastic, really sombre atmosphere.. then Sylvia & Gerry split up and the imfamous Freddie Frieberger arrived with the alien mosters..

Thunderbirds... classic show, probably my favourite of the puppet era.

U.F.O. for me. I was big into all this stuff back in the early '80's, used to go to the big Conventions, surrounded by loons dressed up as Captain Scarlet....happy days.

Was always a Stingray girl. Although the original Captain Scarlet and Terrahawks also have a special place in my childhood TV memories. Never enjoyed Thunderbirds as much and can't really remember ever seeing any of the others.

FAB (get it) topic Mr M.

I am such a massive Gerry Anderson fan. I even went ot see him on tour when he gave a lecture at various theatres. It wasn't quite what i expected and the audience all gave me a funny look when I started going mental when he started talkin about one of my real heroes the indestructable captain scarlet.

For years during the late 70's and early 80's we were starved of any Scarlet or thunderbords on the telly. The in London a night time show ( think its when all day telly first started) on a friday night showed an epsiode but it was split upto into 3 ten minute slots in a 3 hour show and i used to sit up al night.

I love Scarlet so much and always wore the most fab scarlet t shirt you have ver seen to all my early gigs. I still have it but it is pretty worn. Who remembers the first ever episode when Captain Black who was a goody got taken over by the mysterons. The stories all had a very good moral tales as well.

Thunderbirds was always on on a sunday morning on ITV and always seemed more popular than any other Anderson show. I thought it amazing that even recently Tracy Island was the best selling christmas toy.

Stingray too was a masterful show.

i had better stop as this is one of my fave fave things ever.

thank goodness we are so lucky we can get everything on DVD and video nowadays..

IMHO, Captain Scarlet was the zenith of Supermarionation. The storylines were hard hitting and very violent. That opening sequence in the alleyway, then the 'This is the voice of The Mysterons' part and Captain Black standing in a graveyard, was pretty hard hitting for a kids TV show. I remember seeing back in 70-72 and it really had a powerful impact. The characters were well rounded and it would have made a great live action show. The violence was something else, with an average of 2 deathsan epsiode, imagine that in a kids show now! Also how all the major characters all drank booze and smoked too, wonderfull stuff. I was fortunate enough to meet a few of the people involved in the show, at various Gerry Anderson conventions and they all held it in high esteem. I think, if I'm not mistaken, that it is Gerry's favourite of all his shows. All this has made me wanna go watch a couple of episodes!
