Frequently Asked Questions

Can my KISS site broadcast on the News Reel?
If you want your site to be part of the News Reel E-mail NewsReel@kissinuk.com and ask for further information.

How do I set up the News Reel?
Use the Settings screen (by pressing the Sites Button or right-clicking and choosing 'Settings') to set up your personal preferences. This will allow you to select which sites to subscribe to and set other options such as keeping the News Reel on top etc.

How do I download the latest news?
To update the currently displayed news right-click on the News Reel and select the 'Update News' option.

Can I automatically download the latest news when I start the News Reel?
Yes, just select the 'Collect News On Startup' option on the settings screen. This option is set by default.

How do I subscribe/unsubscribe from sites?
Simply tick or untick the site from the list on the settings screen (or right click on the News Reel and choose 'Select KISS Sites').

Will new sites ever be added to the list?
Yes, from time to time new sites will be added. To check for the latest sites simply press the 'Download Latest list' button on the settings screen. You will be informed if any new sites were added.

How do I move between my selected news sites?
To move between selected sites you can either wait for the current site to finish, in which case the next one will start, or use the 'Next' and 'Prev' buttons on the main screen.

Can I alter the order that my sites are displayed in?
Yes, on the settings screen where you select your sites, use the up & down buttons to move the order that your sites are displayed in. The site at the top will be displayed first etc.

How do I visit the homepage of the current site?
Apart from clicking on the headlines to display the relevant news story from the site, you can double-click on the sites logo to visit their main page.

Why do some sites only display a standard 'KISS News' logo?
This applies to sites that haven't yet submitted a logo, if the site in question does submit a logo then when you next update the list of sites the new logo will be downloaded. Logos are only ever downloaded once and are stored on your machine to improve the performance of the News Reel.

How do I dock the News Reel on the desktop?
Simply drag it right down to either the bottom or top of the screen until it stretches out to the width of the screen. You can also select to dock the News Reel on startup by using the settings screen.

How do I un-dock the News Reel from the desktop?
Hold the left mouse button down on the sites logo (at the left of the screen) and simply drag the News Reel onto the desktop. You can also select the 'Floating Window' option on the settings screen, this will come into effect next time you start the News Reel.

Known Issues

1. If Docking the News Reel at either the bottom or top of the screen causes small problems when you try to exit then select the 'No Docking' option on the settings screen as this will by-pass all the docking features.

2. Whilst the program will remember where it was last positioned on the desktop, it will not remember if it was docked or not. To do this change the 'Startup Position' on the settings screen.

3. When docking the News Reel on Win 98, if some windows are already maximised they may not resize themselves to fit around the reel. Simply minimise & restore the relevant windows to fix this. This does not seem to occur with Win 95.
