Introducing myself

Postby Adam Black » Wed Jun 20, 2007 4:24 am

Hi, there --

Officially, I'm here to pimp the KISS 4K webcomic, which is the supplement to the new Kiss comic book that came out in May. Unofficially, I'm here to hang out with fellow Kiss fans. I think it'll be fun to talk to rock/metal fans from the UK, as the state of my favorite type of music is abysmal here in the States. Hell, the Japanese are doing a better job at rock & roll than we are at this point. Don't even get me started. I officially blame Britney Spears. In my little world, there's a special corner of Hell reserved for pop stars. ;)

Has the comic book reached the UK yet? It was released over here on May 30, but I haven't heard anything about overseas distribution, and I'm curious about that.

Anyway, the webcomic can be accessed via the sig image below, although the link is f*cked at present, for reasons unknown. Try this if the sig doesn't work: http://www.drunkduck.com/KISS_4K_The_Webcomic/index.php

Hopefully they'll get that fixed soon. *shakes fist*

I will refrain from blathering on at this point, but will be back to make a mess of your lovely forum very soon.

Talk to ya later,

Adam

Hi Adam, welcome to KISSinUK. Pimp Away..

Not to sound sour here, but with KISS' fine dvd KISSology not even getting an official UK release (most of us here imported it), I don't hold much hope for the KISS 4K comic distribution, unless it's through major city stores like HMV or Borders. Unfortunately, KISS' profile couldn't be lower here in Britain. The band themselves don't seem to want to visit these shore's (not since 1999) - apart from Gene (to promote TV series), or Eric Singer (for Expo's). Talking of which, the 2007 UK KISS Expo is a possibility (if it itself happens) being an ideal way to launch a KISS related comic/webcomic.

Good luck with it. Don't be a stranger.. tell us more about your involvement with this project, and whether KISS have any input in the story/design etc..

Cheers.

Thanks for the warm welcome!

I just sent an email to my boss at Platinum Studios, asking about UK distribution for the comic. I'll let you know what he says.

Gene and Paul are very involed with this comic, and the webcomic as well. Gene especially, as he's an old-school comic book fan. All my art and scripting had to be approved by the both of them before I was able to start, which was good. I was worried that the webcomic was just going to be the appendix of the whole operation, but they take it as seriously as they do the print book.

I got to talk with Paul briefly in LA back in March, when they held a press conference announcing the comic book and the webcomic. He's just about the nicest guy you can imagine. Taller than I thought he'd be, too. Still haven't talked to Gene yet, though.

It's a little weird, this job. I used to make money back in 1979 by putting sheets of tracing paper over the solo albums and drawing the four bandmembers without their makeup. Charged 25 cents per picture, and made about two dollars that way. And now I'm doing this.

It's crazy.

Hi there Adam Black, welcome to the Forum.

Maybe you could get a stand/stall at the Notts EXpo.
Surf onto .... http://www.kissexpo.co.uk/

The webmaster is here often - aren't you Nigel!

As KevUnmasked has said - when a KISS release comes on the market - most of us import it asap. So maybe we are shooting ourselves in the foot! But we want the new merch asap and play it or read it - there and then.

A friend bought the big $50.00 version - I have seen it.
Good luck with the comic. KISSinUK webmaster Paul - is very approachable - email him on mailto:Paul@kissinuk.com - I am sure he would welcome any press kits, comp prizes and publicity for the comic.

Are you going to any of the upcoming shows? Rock Fest, Detroit or CA Casino shows?

Hope you become a regular - you might have gathered this is an UK based website - but we welcome posts/thread from overseas forum members esp from the USA.

Well, I spoke with my guy at Platinum, and he says that the print comic should've debuted in the UK at the same time it debuted in the US: May 30. The artist for the book, Kevin Crossley, says he's seen it in shops there already.

As for shows--I was at Wizard World LA, but only because it was a 90-minute plane ride from home. Not sure if I'll be attending any other shows this year, although I'd love a good excuse to end up in the UK. Always wanted to visit.

That's just very cool. Thanks! It's not very popular to be an American these days, so I appreciate the welcome. :D
