At the time of writing, the poll is showing 88% 'yes', and 13% 'no'.

Now, I'm no mathematician, but... :?

Can you put a vote in for Bill Ward as well? :D
It wasn’t until the mid-1970s that the term heavy metal emerged for the music that Black Sabbath had created, although the band had no affection for it. “We said, ‘This ain’t heavy metal, we’re a hard rock band’,” said Ward, who lives in Orange County, California. Osbourne and Butler live in Los Angeles, Iommi in Birmingham.

Pigeon holing music is and always has been a pointless and unsatisfactorily clunky enterprise. The music media always does it and it serves no real purpose other than for labelling the dividers that define categories in CD shops (hey kids remember those!?). We live in a democracy, the majority have decided that they are and we all live with the decision, just like the invasion of Iraq, an unregulated Banking sector and the Bulger murderers walking around free, inconclusively unpunished, ready to strike again as the want takes them...Life is shit, then you die...but feel free to enjoy the interim
feel free to feel offended, cyber-bullied, put out, outside of the clique, side-lined, marginalised or just generally have the piss taken out of. However it's a JOKE!-Nick's Mirth World!

If that's the case, why did you vote yes? You are responsible for perpetuating the pigeon holing of the heavy metal genre. If the suffragettes had just accepted what the majority decided, women would never have got the vote. I'm never swayed by majority decisions, i make my decisions based on my own observations. Which would never include anything that's on wikipedia! Cheer up Nick, life in this country is great, you can do anything, and be anything you want to be, with a bit of hard work. Have you been listening to Leonard Cohen records again? :D

because they are. My point was it's ultimately pointless an exercise...but the choices are 1)Yes, 2)No or 3) abstain.

No, that would make me slash my wrists! Thanks f**k he never duetted with Derek Bailey... the world would have disappeared into a black hole of despair and doom...

I think the exercise is just so Pete can get people to agree with him. I'm blessed with a sense of 'could not care less' about people agreeing with me (i'm sure you've noticed?) Now the band members themselves don't think they were metal, the timings of most of the early sabbath stuff are more akin to prog than they are to metal. Hard/Heavy rock they certainly were, and they (along with Zeppelin and Purple) helped to create metal, but that does not make them metal. It's not a yes/no question, there's far more involved to it than that.
Add a couple of covers, very blues/pop covers.

I don't think even i could stand a Cohen/Bailey duet!

I'm not a big fan of Leonard Cohen, but I think a collaboration between him and Derek Bailey would have been fantastic.
