Ha ha,excellent Nick.
If ya set your camera up properly then theres no lag,Auto with flash etc will tend to give you lag and a grainy effect, playing with the Aperture and shutter priority also the iso will sort this out, these files have been shrunk for the web hence theyre a bit off,the full size files are much more high quality than what your seeing here.Incase you were wondering me and my bro are both amateur photographers and are usually caught in the hills photographing low flying jets at 500knots,yep were plane spotters

I need to get up to speed with Digital - I was using a borrowed camera, I have trouble seeing the icons ( I can't see small print theses days-old git), I hadn't read the manual, I was a bit pissed and I wonder why I ended up with blurry/grainy crap!!

Re: Birmingham Photos Thread
Set the ISO to the highest you can and the shutter speed to the fastest you can. Turn OFF the flash...you do not need it. Totally washes out the colour and, as you discovered, gives a bad grain effect. If the camera has an apperture setting take a few of the support band until you find a setting that gives a good result. I usually lower it significantly at gigs because there is so much light on the stage. If you want some great flame shots where it isn't just a ball of light and washed out KISS faces lower the apperture setting again. The flames get definition that way. Remember to up the apperture setting again tho or the pictures will all be dark afterwards!!!I need to get up to speed with Digital - I was using a borrowed camera, I have trouble seeing the icons ( I can't see small print theses days-old git), I hadn't read the manual, I was a bit pissed and I wonder why I ended up with blurry/grainy crap!!
Hope that helps!!!!!

RFFB ,someone else who doesnt use auto
I always marvel at flashs going off in such bright light and especially when theres tons of smoke about between you n the subject all it does is light it up

Re: Birmingham Photos Thread
I will use the flash maybe 1% of the time!!!! Say if the subject is not being hit by a spotlight and is up close to the edge of the stage, otherwise it's a waste of time. And even then cos of the white make-up you have to alter the apperture or it just washes out! My brother told me when I was a mere whipper snapper, and first started taking photos at gigs, anything over 10 feet away and the flash is pretty much useless. All it does is light up all the heads in front of you!!!! And there is no worse time to use a flash than when there is smoke on the stage...like you so rightly say, all you get is a pic that looks like its been taken in fog as the light just reflects back off the smoke!RFFB ,someone else who doesnt use autoI always marvel at flashs going off in such bright light and especially when theres tons of smoke about between you n the subject all it does is light it up
So, as Glammy Dave and myself have said...to anyone taking pics...TURN OFF YOUR FLASH!!! Play with the cameras settings - shutter fast so the pic wont blur/high IOS so enough light registers...as long as your apperture isnt set really high you will get good pics if you set these two correctly...HONEST!!! Even if you are nowhere near the stage there is so much light on the subject area you will get a better pic and the stage lights will be much stronger in your pics also.
Go on, try it!
ACK!...It's Rock 'n' Roll!!
