Leslie West (happy now?)

Post by w00dy »

Legendary guitarist Leslie West is recovering in a Biloxi hospital after having part of his leg amputated.

West had flown in to Mississippi to perform at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino with his band MOUNTAIN. On Saturday, his leg began to swell, and as a diabetic he was rushed to the emergency room. It was decided that an amputation was required in order to save his life. Surgery was a success and the procedure removed his limb up to the knee.

West is expected to fully recover and faces extensive rehabilitation.

The guitarist's family has requested that the public and media respect his privacy while he comes to terms with this life-changing transition.

I agree, but if his name was spelled correctly as in 'Leslie West' - (he's is never know as 'Les', unlike Les Paul or Les Dawson RIP both) I suspect more people would have viewed the post, I have seen Mountain (the version without felix pappalardi obviously) many times, the last two times he had ritchie scarlet on bass. He is still brilliant, he influenced many players including Ed van halen and Satriani.

Get well soon LESLIE! I hope you will continue on your nantucket sleighride for many years to come :D

From CR mag..

Leslie West intends to carry on with the release of his new album and a subsequent tour, despite having the bottom half of his right leg amputated.
The album, Unusual Suspects, is due in mid-August, with guest appearances from Slash, Billy Gibbons, Steve Lukather, Zakk Wylde and Joe Bonamassa. The tour is due to start in the autumn.

West told Billboard from a rehabilitation facility where he’s learning to adjust to his condition:

“I don’t think there is another attitude… I cried a couple fuckin’ times. I look down – ‘Where is it?!’ You still feel the nerves and stuff like that. I had to make a decision – lose my leg or lose my life. What are you gonna do?

“But I’ll tell you. It’s a good thing it wasn’t one of my arms. Then I’d be really fu*ked.”

The amputation was needed to stop a septic infection that started in West’s foot.
