What is the point with another bank holiday when a lot of today's work places don't actually close on bank holidays?
Even more stupid when you consider the proposed plans for a "Great Britain Day" - encourage community spirit and remind folk what it means to live in Britain. Well I'm sorry but alot of the people this is being aimed at (i.e the Poles, the immigrant muslim population) probably work for companies that don't have bank holidays. Bus drivers anyone???
And there is no point making St Georges day a bank holiday unless you also make St Andrews and St Davids day bank holiday (we won't mention St Patricks day as the Irish have that all sorted out from the sounds of things - they go out and get drunk regardless).
Oh, and do we really need another day when schools are closed so the all the chav kids can go round casuing havoc instead of just the ones who are suspended/bunking off?

What does it mean to be British? Such a good question
It means alot to me. As someone who has travelled the world, and for the longest time had a desire to be somewhere other than here, that all changed around 4 years ago - I was in the USA, and (long story short) quite suddenly, I missed 'home'. Missed it's colour, pace, countryside, history, weather, people - and what a mixed bag we really all are, but it seems to work for most of the time. I could go on and on.. There is SO much to admire about this small island of nations.
Saying that, I actually checked the No box - because while I agree in principle about celebrating Britain for all that it has given the world - good & bad, something smacks of cheesyness about having a day of celebration that will get misused and misinterpreted by many.

There is NOTHING remotely great about Britain so why have a pointless day of supposed celebration ?
While we're at it, why not have these as national holidays ?
Chav Day
Mad Mullah Day
Proud to be a workshy scrounger day
Single parent day
Road Rage Day
Immigrant Day
Asylum Seeker Day
Criminals Day
Its a complete joke. This unpatriotic government will not issue us with a bank holiday for St.Georges day so instead they try to appease everyone else by conjouring up this crap. Whats the point ??
It makes no difference to me. I work every bank holiday as it is.
Stupid shift work, grrr !!!
