For all the newbies...

Postby Pete » Tue Aug 04, 2009 10:00 am

It appears some of the newer members think there's a bit of a 'Them and Us' feel to the board... so let's rectify this...

Why not use this thread here to tell us all about your Kiss experiences?

How did you get into the band?

What's your fave record/member/DVD etc?

How many times have you seen the band? Have you seen them abroad?

What does Kiss mean to you?

Have you ever met a current or ex member of Kiss?

Come on now, don't be shy...get it off your chest and tell Us (Or are we Them? :D )
all about your love for the THE HOTTEST BAND IN THE WORLD!!!

Good post Pete,

There is infact a "welcome" thread on this forum.
A few of our esteemed new forumees have stated that they have lurked here for a while - you would have thought they would have posted in the "Welcome" section first.

I hope there is NO them and us, olde skool vs nu-skool, old gits vs teens, post as often as they breathe vs post "once in a lifetime" feeling/situation going on.

Lets get this started then....

How did you get into the band?

Heard Crazy Nights on the TV. Think it was either TOTP or No Limits. Have told the full story many times and if you search for it then you'll eventually find it...lets just say Crazy Crazy Nights changed my life forever (and for the better)!!!

What's your fave record/member/DVD etc?

*-) has always been my favourite member closely followed by ACE-). My favourite record is LoveGun and I love 'I Stole Your Love'. This should be the opening song followed by Deuce.

The best DVD for me is either MTV Unplugged or The Second Coming but I do have soft spot for eXposed as it was my introduction to Kiss

How many times have you seen the band? Have you seen them abroad?

I've seen them 15 times. First time was at the NEC ( 25/05/92) on the Revenge tour. Last time was in Paris, June 2008 with many wonderful people from here and I've been lucky enough to see them twice at Madison Square Garden. Once on the Psycho Circus tour (again with folks from here) and again on the World Domination Aero/Kiss tour...

So that's me. How about some of you? Daniel3786, Juggalo Army, Axebass....to quote $-) " Lemme hear ya! "

The main reason that I got into KISS was my Dad. My Mum always tried to keep me away from this myterious entity known as KISS. It was always an area of wonder for me at such a young age. I grew up with the music and remember my Mum and Dad leaving us with baby sitters to go and see them. At the age of seven I really began to get into the music. I had only seen the album covers as my Dad had all of the records. So I sat down after football every saturday and listened to the songs on the old record player. ALIVE! Was what really got me hooked. Even though I was sat in my living room I felt so connected and involved with everything that I could hear. My first Live video that I saw was Animalize so I was seeing very different versions of KISS but the energy and showmanship even without the Make up was enough to excite me beyond Batman and Spiderman put together. Soon I was wearing the Make up and singing all of the songs. Throughout first school and all schools for that matter my books were covered in attempted KISS logos and faces. I was known as the KISS kid and still am to this day at the age of 18. Nobody I know understands what it means to me and very often they mock it. But for me it is the most fantastic thing in the world. Whatever the situation KISS is there to pick me up and make me smile. It goes beyond just an American rock group. Those masked men have always caught me on a deeper level. It's not something that I will grow out of or fall out of love with it is KISS the best that there has been and best there ever will be!

Paul Stanley is my favourite member as he embodies everything a Rock Star could ever wish to be. He has the moves the ability to make you feel that he is talking to you personally amoung tens of thousands and he also has the ability to write and perform my favourite songs like nobody else. To me he really is THE MAN!

I have seen KISS 4 times (it has been tricky for me as I'm only 18)

I saw them at Wembley Psycho Circus tour when I was eight and I ended up in the first edition of clown white magazine with my brother. I'm the gappy toothed kid in the Gene Simmons make-up believe it or not.

The I worked my ass off to see them three times last year.
Donington
Paris
Dessel
Four of the best nights of my life. Donington will always stand out for me.

But that's my story. I love this forum because before I found it I didn't even think anybody else could see the magic of KISS like I can. I love the fact that I am among others who also know and appreciate the thing I love (soppy  )

ROCK ON!

The very first time I heard KISS was when I went to a schoolmates house on a wednesday night with a few friends to play records (remember them?). I was 11, in form 1 of high school. The year was 1978. The stuff that was about at the time was sex pistols, john cooper clarke, ian dury etc. At that age, I did`nt realy have a musical preference, I would listen to basically anything, I was all JUST music, that is, until one of my mates put on an album he had brought along. That album was KISS ALIVEII, and my life changed there and then in that bedroom! (No, NOT like that!!!!) It just absolutely blew me away, the power and rhythm of the music, the constant roar of the crowd, and THAT centre spread pic in the album cover!!!! WOW. The very next day I bunked off school with all my pocket money, to go to "Spillers Records" on the hayes in cardiff. (The oldest record shop in THE WORLD!!). That is where I became the proud owner of my very first KISS album, the first of many, as every penny I got after that was used to buy MORE kiss! I had found MY music, the music that would be with me, and be my love for the rest of my life!!! All I would ever listen to was KISS, although as I grew older, my narrow mindness mellowed, allowing other bands into my ears...Thin Lizzy, Iron Maiden, saxon, Rainbow, ac/dc etc. As years advanced even more, I started to listen to stuff like ...Eric clapton, gary Moore, Lenny Kravitz..... But the formula of the music I listen to has never changed......it has got to have great raw screaming guitars, and ace rhythm. But, KISS is STILL the band that is most often filling my ears,If I am asked "Who is Your favorite band/group?" the answer is still the same one I used to give in 1978.....KISS. For me, they were the first, and will ALWAYS be......the Hottest band In The World!!! Rock on, peeps, atvb, gareth (aka gambo).
P.S. I`d like to thank the boy that brought along that album that day, His name was Wayne Hunt, and although I havn`t seen him since leaving high school, he changed my life for the better that wednesday night!!!!! Where ever you are Wayne....THANKS.....Cheers fella!!! :D

I wasn't into music but for some reason summer '86 I started listening to the radio more. I was 14 and I really liked this new song ' You Give Love A Bad Name'. Then Living On A Prayer came out, then The Final Countdown. I was turning into a rocker. Soon Whitesnake brought out Is This Love and Heart released Alone. The pop stuff in the charts didn't interest me but these rock bands were really something. Then KISS put out Crazy Crazy Nights. WOW. This took it to another level. I filled a C90 with recording it off the radio. I was hooked.
Listening to the Friday Rock Show Tommy Vance played Black Diamond live. I had an image in my head of 8 foot tall Gods playing this epic track, and I wasn't far off.
After Crazy Nights, Creatures Of The Night was the next album I bought after hearing the title track, again on the Friday Rock Show. Creatures is still my favourite album.

Paul is my favourite member, he really has got the lot. I think because I got into the band in 87 I don't need for the band to be all original members like I think some of the older fans feel. I can take any line-up as long as *-) and $-) are there.

I first saw the band in Sheffield- Revenge tour. If this is the band without make-up and the massive show what must the original band have been like? A few years later I found out. Donington then Manchester then Finsbury Park. Great shows all of them. I went to see The Physcho Circus show at Wembley ( probably the least impressive of the shows, I was right in the far corner , back row). Donington last year was unbelievable. Not the originals, but definately KISS.

Really excited about the new album. Can't believe I've been a KISS fan for 22 years. Even then I feel like they did so much in the first 15 years or so that I think I missed out on so much.

Heres to KISS now. Paul, Gene, Eric and Tommy. Good luck guys, we're all counting on you.
I said to her ' Honey that ain't no pistol thats my...'
I SAID TO HER ' HONEY THAT AIN'T NO PISTOL THATS MY ... LOVE GUN'.

At age 10 c.1981/2 I decided that I was outgrowing Adam Ant and that he was basically a dick, so armed with some pocket money I headed to the local market to see what my next new thing would be … I saw the Motorhead logo/mask thingy on a huge backpatch & thought wow, picked it up and behind it was a Kiss Love Gun backpatch …. It got purchased along with a Motorhead arm patch. I'd heard Unmasked at my uncles house and What Makes The World Goes Round is my earliest Kiss memory. The Creatures Album soon followed and I was hooked. It took until Donington last year for me to actually see a Motorhead show!

Fav albums are Alive! and Lick it Up and 100,000 years is my all time fave song - I was literally blown away by the demo version on the Box Set – I simply cannot get tired of it.

Fav Kiss Member is Paul Stanley followed by Gene Simmons. Ace Frehley would just about make my top 10...

Fav dvd of the official ones is the Second Coming – it instantly converts any doubters of the band, an amazing piece of self publicity. Best live show dvd is Budokan ’77 – the absolute peak of their powers but things like Palace of Auburn Hills on Kissology 2, non make up run it very close for me. I’m a big fan of all eras. The only other band that I like all eras of is WASP.

I’ve seen them about 15 times in all. Many UK shows including all 3 Doningtons, Finsbury etc but also Boston, LA, NY and Prague. I was also at the infamous Sobabo Casino show 2 years ago where they played as a trio (I was gutted at the time but now claim to have seen a unique piece of Kisstory!).

I’ve collected their autographs since Paul Stanley signed a bit of paper for my uncle in Stafford on the Animalize tour & he gave it to me. I also collect and play their guitars and whilst I collect other stuff - picks, gig posters etc I'm not into collecting toys and potato heads but am facinated by the business side to it and how well Gene has merchandised and marketed himself and the brand

Not sure it was around Crazy nights my dad had a friend who was a big kiss fan so my dad lent me some albums and when i seen the makeup and stuff, that was it all over KISS was and is MY band, the only thing what pissed me off was going to school and having 1 friend in to KISS that sucked, for year i sank my dinner money into KISS stuff, but its all fun to look back on it at times.

What does Kiss mean to you?
Kiss rock its a part of me for life..and its true what KISS fans say "Once your a fan..you die a fan" and again KISS fans you know you can talk to them a have a beer and chat with them even if you dont know them....KISS fans are the best.

I got into the band around 80/81 (I was around 12) because my mate's older brother went to see them in 1980 and came back with a poster that looked amazing to a young metal fan like me who still thought Saxon looked cool.

I bought Alive II and the solo albums (99p each) before moving on to Dynasty and Double Platinum. Having bought Lick it up I lost the faith through the rest of the unmasked period until Revenge. I simply thought the albums were poor and they played the classics too fast live.

First saw them in 1983 and then 24 times since mostly in the US and Europe.

Favourite video has to be the Second Coming.

I've met all the members bar Ace, Eric Carr and Vinnie.

I'm not a "what does kiss mean to me" person. They're a band and quite a bit more but they've never saved my life and I certainly don't depend on them to get me "through" periods in my life.

I still collect some of the merch (mainly guitar picks these days) and will buy the potatoes because I think they look great!

By the way has anyone got a Punisher certificate they'd like to part with???
Just play the bass you bell-end!!

How did you get into the band?

One of my childhood friends was taken to live in the US from 1977-1978 as his Dad was on secondment to British Airways over there. When he returned, he and his brothers had a load of magazine clippings and posters of a band called Kiss. Between them, they also had one 7" vinyl, ex-jukebox single... Detroit Rock City c/w Beth.

I've loved Kiss ever since I saw those clippings and heard DRC.

What's your fave record/member/DVD etc?

Dressed To Kill / Ace Frehley / Second Coming.

How many times have you seen the band? Have you seen them abroad?

10 times in total / Never seen them abroad.

What does Kiss mean to you?

The most constant reference point in my life for the last 30 years.

Have you ever met a current or ex member of Kiss?

Yes, I briefly met Ace Frehley outside after his Frehley's Comet show at Hammersmith (then) Odeon. When I say 'briefly', I shook his hand an said 'Hi' and he just shook my hand back and just sort of looked at me for a second and then walked on. I also still have some A4 production posters from within the backstage area on that night.

Hi everybody, its been awhile since I last posted, but I got bored with the constant arguing, bickering and slagging off thats been going on recently(I know I'm not the only one!)..
Anyway, Pete has now restored my faith with this most excellent post.

How did I get into Kiss?..In the 70's we had a really good magazine called "Sounds".One of its reporters was Geoff Barton(now with "Classic Rock") a huge Kiss Fan.I remember reading one week a list he had made of the essential albums you should own.It included the likes of Deep Purple,Black Sabbath,Black Oak Arkansas,Yes,Jeff Beck & Kiss to name but a few.
I made this list my "bible" and tried to get as many of them as I could.
In my local record shop I got the Sabbath and Purple albums quickly but had to wait a week or two to get my first taste of Kiss Alive!.Well as you all know it was well worth the wait.I had never seen anything like it-the cover-the smoke, the make-up and then the songs.I've been hooked ever since.
However I did'nt start collecting till '92 when I saw a flocked poster in sex shop in Seattle(but thats another story).

Fave record;..Has to be Alive! The songs still stand up today as we know

Fave member;.. *-) The complete rock star-then & now!

Fave DVD; Kissology 1,the memories come flooding back

How many times have I seen them?..Sorry I can't remember; The first time was in 1980 at Wembley on the Unmasked tour. After that its been at least once on every tour since, including the Marquee Club in 1988 as a warm up for Donnington,(queing from 6am after a 2 hour drive in my Hillman Avenger particularly stand out).

Seen 'em abroad; yes -many times in Europe in the mid 90's.The US-twice-Nashville with Uncle Ted & Skid Row supporting, and then in 03 at the Palms Casino in Las Vegas-a very intimate gig,no stage show,no pyro. The night before they had been playing in Japan!
On the last tour a road trip to Prague,Berlin, mannheim & Download, then the Eurostar to Paris where I met many of you good folks.Where to next year?

What does Kiss mean to me?;..Life/Lifestyle since the mid 70's,a great reason to travel far & wide and meet like-minded people.

Ever met Them;..I've met Bruce & Eric Singer;Bruce at a guitar expo at the NIA,he Saw my Tattoo of himself and he could'nt believe it.He even had someone take a Polaroid of him face to face with my tattoo so he could send it to his mum!.A very cool moment in my Kisstory.I've met Eric at many conventions here & the US-a great guy,he always has time for everybody(mind you he could talk for England).

Well thats a brief history of my Kisstory-I love being a Kiss fan

Wally
