Trev (Ace in Dressed To Kill) has just posted this report on our forum:-
In true foreign correspondant fashion I'm back at the hotel filing my report.
First off here's the set list;
1. Detroit Rock City
2. Makin' Love
3. Watchin' You
5. Christine 16
6. Firehouse (Gene breathes fire)
7. Got to Choose
8. Love 'em, Leave 'em (!)
Paul sings a verse of 'Sakiyaki' by Kyu Sakamoto
9. I love it loud
10. Love Gun
11. God of Thunder (Gene blood spitting routine and flying)
12. Do you love me?
13. Black Diamond (Eric vocal)
14. Let me go Rock & Roll
15. I was made for loving you (Paul flies into audience)
16. Shout it out Loud (with Black Diamond finish and levitating Drum riser)
17. God Gave Rock & Roll to you
18. Rock & Roll all Nite
No photo's I'm afraid as there were no cameras allowed and the security staff were searching bags and monitering the crowd very closely for anyone trying to take pictures or record the show.
Attendance at the Rainbow hall was a little on the thin side, around 60-70%. Apparently the music scene in Japan has taken a downturn for foreign artists over the last 10 years and it seems KISS may be victims of this. The stage was scaled down considerably from the Rock the Nation one and very closely modelled on the Love Gun set, lit staircases, drum riser with catherine wheels, single big KISS logo and cherry pickers either side of the stage. Pyro was pretty minimal too, mostly just flames and theatrical flashes with a couple of airbursts but a ton of confetti at the end.
As to the show itself it got off to a slightly rocky start with a few technical hitches but after that it was a supurb performance. The band all look and sound great, much as I love the original line up and am a fan of Ace I have to say I would rather see Eric and (after hearing Ace at the rock honours) yes Tommy too. (Waits for abuse!)
Fukuoka report coming up in a couple of days.
